LATHA CHRISTIE, Ph.D.
Latha Christie was born in Palayamkottai in Tamilnadu, India, as the first of seven children. She completed her schooling from St. Ignatius Convent Higher Secondary School, Palayamkottai. Besides schooling, she learnt classical dance, music, and other languages. She ardently believes that her mother’s prayers and father’s guidance set the stage right for a successful education and efficacious career in her life and that of her siblings. However, being brought up in an overprotective and conservative environment made her a naive person with low self-esteem. She completed her engineering in Electronics and Communication with honors from the Government College of Engineering, Tirunelveli.
Teach your children to pursue truth
rather than earthly gifts
She was selected as a scientist by the Government of India in 1987 and got married in the same year. After two subsequent miscarriages, God blessed her with two sons Pradeep Kumar and Praveen Kumar. Her first son earned his master’s from Carnegie Melon, Pittsburgh, and is working as a software engineer while her second son is a medic in the USA. Almost 15 years after completing her bachelor’s in Engineering, she earned master’s and Ph.D. from the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. She has written two technical books based on her Ph.D. work and has published over 70 papers in peer-reviewed journals & conferences. She was sponsored by the Government of India, to undergo the Project Management and Leadership executive diploma program from I2P2M, in collaboration with George Washington University School of Business, Washington DC.

The Divine Breakthrough
While she was doing her Ph.D., it was difficult for her to balance work and life, mainly due to the mounting marital problems. Eventually, she fell into a deep depression. She felt like she was riding a roller coaster in the dark and was engulfed in fear. Feeling lifeless, empty, and sleepless, she wished for death every moment. Born a Christian, it seemed like even God abandoned her, with no answers to her fervent prayers for two long decades. Self-pity, bitterness, hurt, and questions began to taunt her. “Is God fair? Why is the all-loving, all-powerful, and all-knowing God, not coming to her rescue?” These questions kept pounding her heart. Around that time, she developed a high temperature, which turned into severe pneumonia. When she was admitted to Mallya hospital Bangalore in March 2004, one of her lungs became dysfunctional. Antibiotics could not save her other lung, too, and she was put on a ventilator. In a desperate situation vacillating between life and death, God intervened in a dramatic manner. A supernatural presence was felt at the ICU; she saw the Cross and the Blood of Jesus Christ washing away all her sins. She heard a divine voice saying to her thrice – “I am giving you a new life.” All the five days on the ventilator, she felt the strong presence of God engulfing her. During her period of recovery, something within woke her early morning, prompting her to read the Bible. So, she would open and read the red Gideon Bible that someone had given her, that remained closed for many years. The Words of the Bible came alive and made the Presence of God very real to her. She understood that she had a supreme value in God’s eyes, and the Creator of the Universe had been pursuing and protecting her all through her pains with unending love. Realizing the power of the Lord over everything in life, she experienced victory over the fear of darkness and demons. God healed her physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually and delivered her.

From Victim To Victor
With a broken marriage, shattered dreams, and fragile support, the promises of God from Isaiah 54 became her strength. She understood that only through the Grace of God, she could become a victorious person and not just a survivor. Early-morning prayer and Bible reading became a prioritized routine for her sustenance. God healed her from her post-traumatic stress disorder and knee pain by grace. She completed Master of Divinity at SABC, Bangalore as the first distance-learning student, and Masters in Christian Studies from Madras University and also Apologetics training from RZIM, India. She obtained her certification in counseling from Word of Life, Witchita, USA, for counseling abuse and alcohol victims. However, emptiness began to creep in again. She analyzed that she had become too busy with no personal time with God, which made her lose joy and peace. One calm morning, she heard the soft voice of God deep within again. He needed her to be at His feet for she is called by Him, to serve Him, and for Him alone. She understood that God created her with the desires and dreams to enjoy fellowship with Him, in addition to creating her with gifts and talents to serve Him for His glory.
You are a victor and not a victim as you shall overcome
all evil by the encompassing love of God
The Discovery of Writing
She never knew that she could be an author until her forties. Listening to this inner nudge from God, she carried out research on abuse for a period of two to three years: on the psychology of abuse, the treatments to reform abusive men and women, and the methods to break the cycle of abuse. These led her to write her first book on Domestic Violence – When the Flame Flickers: Emerging from Marital Abuse. The book was published by Saiacs in 2014 and by Wipf and Stock, USA, in 2019. Because of her interest in the field of intersection between faith and science, she worked diligently on cosmology, geology, biology, and archaeology to find out whether it is reasonable to believe in God. After four years of research, she completed the book – Beyond the Boundaries of Science: Exploring the Cosmic Story, which was published by Wipf and Stock, USA, in 2019. In this book, she has presented arguments against atheism based on the beginning of the universe and biological life. She has suggested a new paradigm for the interpretation of Genesis 1, which shows that the creation sequence matches the latest scientific findings. She authored two technical books, namely: Coupled-Resonator Slow-Wave Structures for Traveling-Wave Tubes in 2010, and Electromagnetic Modeling of Waveguide Discontinuities: An Analysis in 2019, which were published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing.

The Host of the Grand Cosmic Story
As an aerospace engineer, she is fascinated by the origin of the universe, and intrigued by the sheer vastness of the universe, the fine-tuning of nature’s laws, constants to support intelligent life. Many scientists like Stephen Hawking and Richard Dawkins have concluded that the world with complex biological life came into existence by chance and that there is no need for God’s hypothesis. But her research findings are diametrically opposite to such existing views. Although human existence is insignificant compared to the dimensions of the universe, the design of the universe conveys the impression that it was specifically created for our existence. To bring out this fact, she is engaged in making a series of video documentaries called the Grand Cosmic Story, which speaks on the origin, vastness, and the design of the universe, as well as the complexities of biological life on earth. Every episode ends with one or two important questions that make the viewer think that faith in God is not against reason.
